| Core Tip |
Idiopathic myointimal hyperplasia of the mesenteric veins (IMHMV) is a rare vascular disorder that typically affects the colorectum but can also involve the small intestine. We present a unique case of IMHMV exclusively affecting the small intestine, in which the patient experienced small intestinal perforation, infarction, and obstruction before a definitive diagnosis was made. This report emphasizes the importance of early recognition and highlights the diagnostic challenges faced by patients. A review of 84 cases helps increase awareness and understanding of the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of IMHMV. |
