| Core Tip |
Diazoxide is a selective mitoKATP channel opener and has a protective effect against organ ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. This report shows that diazoxide maintains liver mitochondrial function, increases liver tolerance to I/R injury, and reduces the systemic inflammatory response. Since diazoxide has also a hypotensive effect its administration may also reduce bleeding in liver surgery during hepatic parenchyma transection. These effects require further evaluation for use in a clinical setting. |
