| Core Tip |
Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) guidance in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has shown clinical benefits, but its role in primary PCI for STEMI remains underexplored. The ULTRA-STEMI trial is a prospective, single-center study evaluating the safety, efficacy, and procedural outcomes of IVUS-guided PCI in STEMI patients. Uniquely, this study incorporates micro-computed tomography analysis of aspirated thrombi to quantify thrombus burden and correlate it with IVUS findings. The results may provide novel insights into thrombus characterization, stent optimization, and IVUS-guided PCI’s potential to improve long-term cardiovascular outcomes in STEMI patients. |
