Core Tip |
Dietary polyphenols have been denoted as promising nutraceuticals for treating brain disorders. They came into the focus as a non-invasive, natural, and cost-effective approach to alleviating depressive symptoms. Polyphenols may target a variety of pathophysiological pathways, thus exerting neuroprotective effects. These effects may be accomplished through the impact on the inflammatory pathways and immune system, trophic factors, neurotransmitters, gut microbiota, and oxidative stress reduction. Understanding these mechanisms may lead to more tailored therapeutic strategies and novel antidepressant therapies. Also, clinical studies are crucial to support the beneficial effects of these compounds as demonstrated in preclinical research. |
