Crohn’s disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory condition that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract. In recent years the incidence of CD has increased. Gastrointestinal ultrasound (GIUS) features in patients with CD are specific and include segmental bowel wall thickening, mesenteric edema and thickening, and bowel stenosis. When the identifications of these features are combined with clinical symptoms, a high diagnostic accuracy can be achieved. The use of GIUS for the initial diagnosis and evaluation of disease activity and complications in patients with CD is increasingly common. |
