| Core Tip |
Intrathyroidal thymic carcinoma (ITC) is a rare malignant epithelial tumour of thymic origin occurring within the thyroid. ITC with both squamous cell and small cell carcinoma components has not been reported to date. This case report provides information on the microscopic morphological features of ITC with both squamous cell and small cell carcinoma components, and new potential evidence for the origin of ITC. As cluster of differentiation 117+ immunophenotype is a critical clue that should prompt consideration of ITC, which requires a different diagnostic and therapeutic approach than metastatic small cell lung cancer. |
