This study assessed perioperative outcomes and prognostic factors in 98 older patients with colorectal cancer (CRC; ≥ 65 years) who underwent surgery at a Malaysian tertiary hospital. Body mass index, ischaemic heart disease, and metastatic status (M stage) were identified as significant predictors of survival. Overweight patients showed better survival outcomes, whereas those with ischaemic heart disease or metastasis had poorer outcomes. Our study provides valuable regional insights into perioperative characteristics and prognostic factors in older CRC patients. These findings highlight the importance of comprehensive preoperative assessment and individualised management strategies, as well as the need for larger-scale, longitudinal studies to optimise care and improve outcomes in this vulnerable population. |
