| Core Tip |
Patients with type 2 diabetes are at increased risk of peri-implantitis due to hyperglycemia-driven inflammation and compromised immunity. Individualized risk assessment and management-including glycemic control (target glycosylated hemoglobin < 7%-8%), smoking cessation interventions, and optimized oral hygiene practices-are critical for improving dental implant outcomes in this vulnerable population. |
