| Core Tip |
Gastric cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, with exceptionally high morbidity and fatality rates. A thorough investigation of the pathophysiology of spasmolytic polypeptide-expressing metaplasia (SPEM) is required. SPEM serves as a critical nexus between mucosal repair and gastric carcinogenesis and is a valuable target for early detection and intervention. To gain a deeper understanding of SPEM, this review summarizes its recent mechanistic roles in gastric mucosal diseases. By elucidating these mechanisms, this review aims to provide deeper insights into the research and prevention of SPEM-related diseases. |
