| Core Tip |
To date, there is still an urgent need for more effective and safe therapeutic approaches for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. We obtain a hydroxynaphthoquinone mixture (HM) from Zicao, a traditional Chinese medicine. Previously, HM demonstrates favourable therapeutic effect on TNBS-induced colitis. To exclude the therapeutic effect is limited to TNBS-induced colitis. We evaluated the effect of HM in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis. Similarly, we found that HM was beneficial to DSS-induced colitis. The underlying mechanism may associate with its regulation of TNF-α level and NF-κB activity. All these provide support for its further development and clinical application. |
