| Core Tip |
Preoperative anxiety and depression, assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, have a sustained negative influence on outcomes after total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty. Using propensity score matching and two-year follow-up, this study demonstrates that psychological distress independently predicts poorer joint function, less pain improvement, reduced quality of life, and higher complication risk. These findings emphasize the need to incorporate routine psychological screening and perioperative mental-health interventions into arthroplasty care pathways. |
