| Core Tip |
Preoperative anxiety should not be treated as a uniform situational response to surgery. This opinion review proposes that it is better understood as a trait-shaped cognitive appraisal process influenced by personality, emotional regulation, vigilance, and physiological stress reactivity. By introducing a trait-based precision psychological framework and the concept of psychological calibration, this article offers a more individualized model for explaining variability in anxiety, pain perception, and perioperative behavior, with implications for screening, communication, and tailored intervention in surgical care. |
