Core Tip |
Using a nationally representative date set, this study explores a wide range of risk factors influencing cost-related medication non-adherence (CRN), which receives increasing recognition of importance in diabetes. The authors found that age less than 65, lack of prescription drug insurance coverage, increased numbers of hospitalizations, and greater functional limitations were associated with higher likelihood of CRN among diabetic patients, while nursing home residence decreased risk. Together, these results suggest that expanding prescription coverage to uninsured, sicker, and community-dwelling individuals is likely to produce the largest decreases in CRN.
