Key Words Type 2 diabetes mellitus; Prediction models; Potentially modifiable predictors; Risk stratification; Systematic review
Core Tip This systematic review of 82 studies developing type 2 diabetes mellitus prediction models (2016-2025) shows that while modifiable risk factors (e.g., obesity, smoking, physical inactivity) are increasingly included, most models suffer from high risk of bias, inappropriate variable selection, and lack external validation. Future models must prioritize rigorous methodology and clinically actionable predictors to improve early detection and prevention.
