Core Tip |
Early gastric cancer (EGC) is defined as a lesion confined to the mucosa or the submucosa, irrespective of the presence of regional lymph node metastases. In this study, we retrospectively evaluated the distribution of metastatic nodes in a two-center cohort of 202 patients with EGC. To assess nodal status in EGC, we applied an index calculated by the multiplication of the incidence of metastases in the respective node stations. Univariate and multivariate analyses were applied to confirm the clinicopathological factors associated with lymph node metastases, and to provide a basis for choosing the optimal surgical treatment and for determining the appropriate range of lymph node dissection.
