| Core Tip |
Hepatitis B surface antigen negative but hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA positive blood products can evoke hepatitis in blood recipients. Anti-hepatitis B core and HBV nucleic acid testing screening tests are necessary to prevent occult HBV infection transmission by transfusion. Anti-HBs antibody in donors and recipients can protect against hepatitis B infection.
