Core Tip |
Amyloid fibrils show a faint birefringence with polarization microscopy even when they are stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE), and this effect can be rein?forced when digital images are captured. We researched the efficacy of this technique in rectal biopsies and observed that it allowed identification of unsuspected cases with HE. True positivity was higher, and false negativity and positivity were lower compared to evalu?ation by HE. Therefore it can be used as an adjunct or a prior step to Congo-red staining, especially for cases with limited tissues for further analysis as it is a fast and safe method. |
