Core Tip |
The present study assessed morbidity and mortality differences among gastrectomy patients with underlying histories of myocardial infarction (MI), angina pectoris (Angina), heart failure (HF), and atrial fibrillation (AF). The authors concluded that gastric cancer patients with a history of MI had a higher risk for complications after gastrectomy, and patients with a history of HF had a higher risk for postoperative cardiac problems than patients with a history of Angina or AF. Therefore, patients with MI or HF require careful pre- and postoperative evaluation, and these patients should be informed about the possibility of postoperative morbidity, particularly intra-abdominal abscess and postoperative cardiac problems. |
