Core Tip |
Intestinal mucosal barrier injury induced by intestinal Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) can often be the basis for a bad prognosis in many diseases. Although extensive investigative efforts have focused on it, the underlying mechanism remains the subject of debate and there are no effective methods for its prevention and control yet available. Our findings suggest that the high mobility group protein 1–toll-like receptor 4 axis and the two downstream signalling pathways all play important roles in I/R injury and show the potential therapeutic value of blocking these pathways. This study has an important clinical significance which could improve the survival rate and reduce complications in critically ill patients. |
