Core Tip |
At present, there is not an effective therapeutic means for liver fibrosis. Inhibition of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) activation and proliferation or inducing apoptosis is the mainstream strategy for the treatment of liver fibrosis. As demonstrated in our current study, an histone deacetylase inhibitor, givinostat has antifibrotic activities both in vivo and in vitro, which might be achieved by regulating the acetylation of nuclear factor kappa B and superoxide dismutase, stimulating oxidative stress, activating mitochondrial pathways, inhibiting proliferation of mouse HSCs, and inducing apoptosis. Our current study may provide new directions and evidence in the research and development of new drugs for liver fibrosis. |
