| Core Tip |
Gingerol, a non-pungent molecule, has an inhibitory effect on colonic motility. There are many ion channels and second messengers involved in this process; however, no reports have described the effects of gingerol on L-type calcium channel currents. In the present study, we found that 6-gingerol obviously inhibited spontaneous contraction of longitudinal smooth muscle by preventing Ca2+ influx through L-type calcium channels.
