This study is the first to investigate the effects of glycyrrhizic acid (GA) on p53-dependent apoptosis in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatic injury. The results indicated that GA can attenuate hepatocyte apoptosis via a p53-mediated mitochondrial pathway and retard the progression of liver fibrosis induced by CCl4 in rats.
