Core Tip |
The serotonin transporter (SERT) participates in metabolizing serotonin in the gut and plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This review summarizes the relevant evidence on the factors that might regulate SERT, including SERT gene polymorphisms, microRNAs, immunity and inflammation, gut microbiota and growth factors. This review also reveals several potential treatments targeting SERT for IBS patients. |
