Key Words Functional gastrointestinal disorders; Epidemiology; Prevalence; Children; Adolescents
Core Tip Epidemiological studies on functional gastrointestinal disorders in children and adolescents provide variable prevalence rates in both non-clinical and clinical settings. The scarcity of good quality prevalence data for functional gastrointestinal disorders in light of recent Rome Ⅳ criteria reveals an urgent need for more trustworthy information to construct evidence-based health policy. The current literature review suggested higher impact of cyclic vomiting, irritable bowel syndrome and functional constipation in children and adolescents.
