Cirrhotic patients with ascites have a 33% chance of 30-d readmission. Factors associated with 30-d readmission include age < 64 years, Medicaid and Medicare insurance, increased comorbidities, nonalcoholic cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma and paracentesis during index admission. Based on identification of these predictors and significant cost involvement, there is need to find ways to counteract them and reduce 30-d readmission rate. |
