Core Tip |
Studies that address the modulation of local renin-angiotensin system (RAS) have gathered pace as it was established that obese subjects exhibit overexpression of the components of classical RAS in organs like the liver. Herein we show pieces of evidence that two different angiotensin II receptor blockers can modulate the intrahepatic RAS, with favored angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) 2/rMAS axis over ACE1/angiotensin II type 1 receptor in mice fed a high-fat diet. These actions could mitigate hepatic steatosis through reduced hepatic triacylglycerol levels along with decreased body mass and better glycemic control. These drugs could be a viable option to treat non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in obese and/or hypertensive patients. |
