The increased level of core fucosylated N-linked glycoproteins detected in some patients with hepatocellular carcinoma may occur via several potential molecular mechanisms. We report that the genes GMDS and TSTA3, which are associated with the de novo synthesis of the fucose donor species, guanosine diphosphate fucose, can be amplified in some hepatocellular carcinoma patients. Amplification seems to be the most common genetic alteration affecting the genes that control the production of core fucosylated proteins. |
