Core Tip |
Allicin (2-propene-1-sulfinothioic acid S-2-propenyl ester, diallyl thiosulfinate) is one of the active anti-Helicobacter pylori ingredients in garlic. Allicin in addition to PTT and BCQT have been trialed as an anti-Hp therapy, with variable results. The present study reviewed the studies that compared allicin plus PPI triple therapy (PTT) and bismuth containing therapy (BCQT) versus PTT/BCQT alone in treating Hp infection with meta-analysis further performed. We concluded that allicin may improve eradication rates, healing rates, the remission of peptic ulcers, and the remission of abdominal pain, but does not affect side effects when used as add-on treatment of Hp infection and Hp related ulcers. These results should be treated with cautions due to limited quality. |
