Core Tip |
Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is an important prognostic factor for outcomes in patients with cirrhosis. We performed a systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized control trials evaluating the efficacy of antibiotics for primary or secondary prophylaxis of SBP. Rifaximin ranked highest in reducing the risk of SBP as well as the risk of death/transplant. Our comprehensive network meta-analysis provides randomized control trials-based evidence for superior efficacy of rifaximin compared to other antibiotics for the prophylaxis of SBP and reducing the risk of death/transplant. |
