Core Tip |
Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is a useful tool which has been applied from last century to now. It is used to diagnose the impaired glucose tolerance and/or type 2 diabetes mellitus in individuals. The basic research also applied it to investigate the glucose utilization and insulin sensitivity in animals. However, the main aim of each is quite different and the details are also somewhat varied. In addition to the merits of OGTT in bench and bedside, variations between clinical practice and basic research were also discussed. Notably, the time for OGTT has been recommended to be shorter in individuals from recent reports. It needs the official confirmation including diabetes associations in advance. This new method is also required to be clarified in animal research. Additionally, perspectives of OGTT application were also conducted in this review including machine learning. Therefore, this report suggested new way for OGTT practice in the future. |
