Plexiform fibromyxoma (PF) is a rare mesenchymal tumor of the stomach. Due to its rarity, the pathogenesis and molecular alterations of PF are largely unknown. The incidence of the tumor seems to be increasing probably due to a growing awareness of this entity. Histologic mimics of PF include gastrointestinal stromal tumor, smooth muscle tumor, nerve sheath tumor, myxoma and aggressive angiomyxoma. Molecular mimics of PF include gastroblastoma and malignant epithelioid tumor with GLI1 (glioma-associated oncogene homologue 1) rearrangement. Surgical removal is the current mainstay of treatment. |
