Core Tip |
This study identified 27 microRNAs (miRNAs) with significantly different expression levels between Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) patients. Five miRNAs whose expression levels were significantly lower in the UC patients than in the CD patients were selected for enrichment analysis, which revealed enrichment in certain signaling pathways that were mostly associated with cancer-related processes. The characterization and comparison of the differentially expressed miRNAs in this study could lead to novel diagnostic biomarkers to differentiate UC from CD. These markers might also predict prognosis, help elucidate the distinct pathophysiology of each disease, and lead to novel therapeutic target identification. |
