Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is an acute, short-onset, diffuse, inflammatory lung injury disease. Previous studies have reported on the benefits of the prone position over the supine position in terms of mechanical ventilation and oxygenation; however, this has not been addressed in patients with ARDS caused by sepsis. Herein, we retrospectively reviewed the data of 106 patients who underwent mechanical ventilation for ARDS caused by sepsis. We found that mechanical ventilation in the prone position was associated with reduced mortality with no adverse effects on inflammatory and hemodynamic indices. |
