Core Tip |
With this 8-year retrospective study, we aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics, analyse the prognostic factors, and discuss therapeutic strategies for patients with recurrent intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) after hepatectomy. Multivariate analysis showed that alcohol consumption [hazard ratio (HR) = 4.64, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.53-14.04, P = 0.007] and disease-free survival < 6 mo (HR=3.47, 95%CI: 1.59-7.60, P = 0.002) were independent risk factors for cumulative survival for patients with recurrence, while treatment after recurrence (HR=0.21, 95%CI: 0.08-0.55, P = 0.001) was an independent protective factor. We propose that multimodality therapy should be developed to improve long-term outcomes through the combined approach of local therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. |
