Core Tip |
Worldwide hepatocellular carcinoma is the sixth most common malignancy and the fourth cause of death related to cancer. Over the past decades, there is a progress on the diagnosis and treatment possibilities of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We herein review the available knowledge on the carcinogenesis, the surveillance of HCC and the relevant data with the Liver imaging-reporting and data system (LI-RADS) algorithm that was recently integrated into American Association for the Study Liver Disease HCC clinical practice guidelines. LI-RADS aim to avoid false-positive examinations and to ensure high sensitivity and positive predictive value in high-risk population with simultaneous achievement of probabilistic categorization of the tumor. |
