| Core Tip |
In this prospective study, a total of 20 patients with portal hypertension and gastric varices (GV) were referred for primary prophylaxis of GV bleeding with endoscopic injection of N-butyl-2 cyanoacrylate plus methacryloxysulfolane (NBCM) without lipiodol dilution. Eradication of GV was observed in all patients. Overall, GV recurrence confirmed by endosonography was observed in 2 patients (10%), after 6 and 35 mo of follow-up. The prevalence of GV bleeding was 5% (1/20 patients). No major complications, such as embolism occurrence or death, were observed. Undiluted NBCM may be a safe and effective prophylactic against GV bleeding. |
