Core Tip |
Here we present a case of an appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (AMN) incidentally identified during a laparoscopic hemicolectomy performed to treat adenocarcinoma in the transverse colon of a 74-year-old male. This presentation underscores the diagnostic complexity posed by AMNs, which often manifest nonspecifically and may be mistaken for other malignancies. This case highlights the critical role of immunohistochemical analysis in establishing a definitive diagnosis and informing surgical strategy, with a particular focus on averting misdiagnosis and potential complications, such as pseudomyxoma peritonei. |
