Machine perfusion (MP) has garnered the interest of the transplant community given its proven beneficial effects on the clinical outcomes after liver transplantation (LT). Herein, we discuss the historical background of MP in LT and the available clinical evidence. Furthermore, we highlighted the obstacles and the need for future research, in particular with respect to viability assessment and prolonged preservation times. |
