Aim of our review is, highlighting surgical anatomy of the liver, types of liver resection, and systemic consequences of surgical maneuvers, to provide the anesthesiologists involved in liver surgery with the expertise for a proactive management of the perioperative period. We will address cardiovascular consequences of vascular clamping and declamping, intraoperative hemodynamic monitoring, postoperative treatment of posthepatectomy liver failure, the use, if and when appropriate, of artificial support(s) and, in very selected cases, the rescue indication to liver transplant. |
