Core Tip |
The levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor subunits differ between the brains of patients with schizophrenia and those of healthy individuals. Patients with schizophrenia show cognitive impairments due to problems with attention, memory, social cognition, and executive functions. Furthermore, downregulation of the GABA receptor subunits GABRA1, GABRB1, GABRD, and GABRE is positively correlated with declining cognitive function in schizophrenia patients. No significant correlation was found between the subunit expression levels of GABRA5 and GABRA6. |
