Core Tip |
Locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) poses a special challenge for surgical resection. It is of paramount importance to define the extent of surgery and to decide whether to perform a minimally invasive procedure. Minimally-invasive surgery provides adequate guidance for the surgeon to achieve complex and multiple resections with clear resection margins, however no consensus regarding the optimal approach exists. Here, we review the emerging experience and evidence of robotic assistance in beyond TME multivisceral pelvic exenteration for LARC, where heightened operative challenges and cumbersome ergonomics are likely to be encountered. |
