Core Tip |
Depression is often a comorbidity present in the patient with gastric cancer (GC), often brought about by the stressful load that such a neoplasm brings down on the patient. However, new frontiers of research within the “gut-brain axis” have posited hypotheses about a bidirectional association between GC and depression, ruling out a single unidirectional relationship proceeding from GC to the development of depression. The key to both directions of this vicious circle could be the identification of tools with which to quickly identify depression early in these cancer patients. |
