Core Tip Obesity and diabetes are now public problems that threaten the health of people worldwide. Although bariatric surgery for the treatment of obesity associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) has been shown to be a safe and effective approach, its challenges have not been described systematically and comprehensively. This review is at the forefront of presenting and answering the challenges faced in the field of surgical management of obesity-associated DM today. It provides an up-to-date insight into the daily practice of clinicians.
