Core Tip |
In this retrospective study, intentionally unilateral prostatic artery embolization (IU-PAE) was applied in 13 patients with opacification of more than half of the contralateral prostatic lobe after angiography of the ipsilateral prostatic artery or with markedly asymmetric prostatic enlargement. Compared to bilateral PAE, IU-PAE was associated with significantly lower radiation exposure and with a shorter procedure, but with no significant difference in clinical efficacy. Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography was applied during IU-PAE and revealed only limited prostatic infarction in the 2 clinical failures of IU-PAE, in contrast to the rest of the patients. |
