Core Tip |
In this study, we determined the effectiveness of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and/or hyaluronic acid in treating experimental ankle osteoarthritis. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) characterized by Flow cytometry and animals divided into 5 groups. Lipid peroxidation, MMP-13 mRNA, transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β1) protein expressions, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-17 serum levels significantly increased in osteoarthritic rats while Antioxidant serum glutathione and glutathione transferase levels decreased. The treatment of osteoarthritic rats with BMMSCs and hyaluronic acid (HA) significantly improved these changes. BMMSC and/or HA consider a novel anti-arthritic effect mediated by the augmentation of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and suppression of MMP-13 and TGF-β1 expressions in Wistar rats with OA. |
