Core Tip For patients with resectable hilar cholangiocarcinoma (HCCA), extended lymphadenectomy including No.16 group may obtain more lymph nodes to more accurately stage the tumor and to reduce the influence of total lymph node count on the lymph node ratio when compared with single enlarged No.16 lymph node biopsy. Besides that, it also may help to prevent the occurrence of lymph node micrometastases, which will avoid the difficult to determine the cause of postoperative enlargement of No.16 group lymph nodes. Therefore, extended lymphadenectomy including No.16 group is potentially more consistent with the principle of lymph node dissection in radical resection of HCCA.
