According to the status quo of antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in China, we conducted long-term follow-up of patients with CHB who were recommended to receive nucleoside antiviral therapy in accordance with the guidelines, but did not receive antiviral therapy. We found that early antiviral therapy in patients with CHB did not yield greater benefits in the incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma than hepatoprotective anti-inflammatory therapy. It is suggested that early antiviral therapy with nucleosides may mask spontaneous viral clearance and hepatitis B e antigen clearance in patients with CHB. |
