Key Words Metabolic associated fatty liver disease; Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease; Endogenous glucose production; Insulin resistance; Steatohepatitis; Inflammation
Core Tip From studies using tissue targeted animal models it emerges that neither insulin resistance per se induces hepatic steatosis, nor steatosis induces whole body insulin resistance. However, it is evident that reducing inflammation has several beneficial effects both at the hepatic and whole-body level. In fact inflammation (either hepatic or systemic) acts as major throttle of progressive liver and systemic diseases.
