Liver transplant (LT) is a lifesaving intervention for patients with end-stage liver disease. Acute pancreatitis (AP) in LT recipients may lead to poor clinical outcomes and development of severe complications. In this study, we noted an increase in LT hospitalizations with AP at a national level from 305 in 2007 to 610 in 2019 with a rising trend for Hispanics and Asians. However, there was no trend for inpatient mortality, mean length of stay and mean total healthcare charge. After a comparative analysis, LT hospitalizations with AP had lower inpatient mortality compared to the non-LT cohort despite a higher mean age, comorbidity burden, and presence of complications. |
