Core Tip |
Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a chronic complication of diabetes. The mainstay markers for kidney injury are a gradual decrease in glomerular filtration rate and microalbuminuria. Microalbuminuria appears late in DN; thus, new biomarkers are required. Different researchers highlighted the role of lipocalin-2 (NGAL) in the early detection of nephropathy before the appearance of microalbumin in urine. In this review, we briefly describe the role of NGAL in various diseases and cancers and detail its role as an early biomarker in DN. |
